Day 1. -Monkey Island - Night walking activity:
07:30 a.m. (approx.) – Pick-up at the bus station and transfer to our office for a short briefing and introduction. You will then be transferred to the port on the Madre de Dios River to board your motorboat for a 45-minute to 1-hour journey to your lodge, Monte Amazon Lodge. Upon arrival, enjoy a welcome drink and check into your room.
After a short rest, you’ll begin your first guided walk through the rainforest (approx. 45 minutes). Your local naturalist guide will lead you along jungle trails, pointing out ancient trees (some over 500 years old) and helping you spot wildlife such as toucans, macaws, monkeys, snakes, and butterflies. This area borders the Tambopata National Reserve (278,000 hectares) — one of the most biodiverse regions on the planet.
After lunch, take a boat ride to Monkey Island, located just across the river. Here you’ll have the chance to see several species of monkeys, including families of playful capuchins.
At night, embark on a boat excursion in search of white caimans and capybaras, the world’s largest rodent. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 2. Sandoval Lake - Alligator watching:
After breakfast, set out on a 3 km jungle hike to reach the beautiful Sandoval Lake, one of the largest and most wildlife-rich in the Tambopata National Reserve. Board a paddle canoe to explore its calm waters, home to piranhas, giant otters, black caimans, monkeys, and numerous bird species such as cormorants, herons, hoatzins, and macaws.
Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the evening, after dinner, venture out on a night walk to discover the nocturnal world of the jungle - including frogs, spiders, and insects that bring the rainforest to life after dark.
Day 3. Canopy walk & Zip Line - Puerto Maldonado - Cusco:
05:30 a.m. – Start the day with a canopy walk high above the jungle (up to 40 meters) for a panoramic view of the Madre de Dios River and a chance to spot early-morning birds such as toucans, macaws, and tanagers.
If time permits, you’ll enjoy an exciting zip line adventure, gliding from tree to tree at over 30 meters high! Afterward, return to the lodge for lunch and some rest before a kayaking activity across the river. In the afternoon, take your boat transfer back to Puerto Maldonado. You’ll have free time to enjoy dinner or explore the town before your overnight bus to Cusco (approx. 11 hours).
