The word "Collpa" (macaw’s clay lick) derives from Quechua which means salt land and are the places where many species of animals congregate to lick and eat a variety of minerals in which these places are rich (different birds and mammals).

ITINERARY

Pick up at your accommodation....

8:15pm you will have a transfer to the bus station for your departure bus to Puerto Maldonado.

NOTE: You can also avoid the bus by taking a flight, please let us know if you prefer this option. AIT can arrange this for you.....

Day 1: Puerto Maldonado - Chuncho Lodge:

Arrival at the airport or bus station and transfer to the Chuncho Lodge, In case you have big luggage, we suggest re pack to store the not needed items and carry just enough for the trip.
Land transfer (4X4) wheeled truck to our destination for about 2 hours to reach the banks of the Tambopata River, if by river it will take more than 6 hours (just information). In this place we will take a boat to the lodge "Monte Amazoníco - Tambopata." Welcome and Breakfast or lunch depending on the arrival time. In the afternoon we make an introductory walk into the rainforest where you will have the opportunity to see animals in their natural habitat as amphibians, mammals, reptiles and wonderful insects, among others.

 Day 2: Macaw Clay Licks - Monkey Island:

You will wake up early, around 4:30, to leave for the lick of the world's largest macaw clay lick the CHUNCHO, a journey of about 1.5 hours, by boat, on the way you will have the incredible opportunity to see species such as capybara, which is the world's largest rodents, tapirs, and you can even see the most beautiful South American feline, jaguar, many of our clients are witnesses with photographic evidence of encounters with these beautiful mammals. After arrival to the macaw clay lick see hundreds of different species of parrots that come to eat clay adjacent to the river wall. You will accommodate us in our saddles to wait to begin one of the most beautiful natural sights of birds in the world. A parrots are followed by 3 species of macaws most colorful of America, reds and greens, blues and yellows more gather to eat clay needed in your daily diet and eliminate toxins. On a good day of activity you will see hundreds of these wonderful animals flying over you. An experience for life. After breakfast, the boat takes us to transport back to Puerto Maldonado and transfer to the port where you will take the boat for one hour until our lodge welcome with a refreshing fruit juice of our region. Accommodation is given. After lunch, you will visit the "Monkey Island", located in front of our lodge across the Madre de Dios River where we find different species of monkeys living on the island those species are the brown capuchin, squirrel monkey and saddle back tamarin; and return to the Lodge. In the evening you will go for caiman search, white alligators are typically found on sand banks in the Madre de Dios River for which it will need to bring a flashlight. Also, you may see some capybara too, back to lodge, dinner and rest.

 Day 3: Sandoval Lake - Alligator watching:

After breakfast you will walk 3 km. In the midst of the dense rain forest and headed to Sandoval lake (piranha habitat) one of the largest in the Tambopata National Reserve and stroll in a rowing boat where you will appreciate many birds of different species (shansho cormorant jacanas, puma heron, buzzards, howler monkey, brown capuchin monkey, tamarins and sloths). Maybe you will meet with the family of giant river otters (almost two meters long) that is in danger of extinction, return to the lodge to enjoy a typical lunch.
In the evening you will one more opportunity to walk where we can appreciate diversity of species of insects, amphibians, reptiles and other nocturnal animals. - Dinner and rest.

 Day 4: Canopy Walk & Zip line - Puerto Maldonado - Cusco:

5:30 a.m.- This morning will begin with a short walk through the canopy walk-way (about 40 meters high) allowing us to have a panoramic view of the Madre de Dios River and allow us to observe different species of birds, including toucans, trogons, macaws, tanagers, orioles, etc. If time permits you will also prepare for the zip line activity challenge from tree to tree, over 30 meters high before returning to the lodge for lunch and rest. In the afternoon will be a challenge to cross the Madre de Dios River by kayak. Finally, around 3pm the boat will take you back to Puerto Maldonado where you will have time to grab dinner and walk around before heading to the bus station for your overnight bus at 21:00pm (approx. 11hours).

Arrival To Cusco the next day.................
08:00am (approx.) arrival to Cusco. Here you need to transport yourself back to your accommodation in Cusco. 

NOTE: One can also flight there and back to Cusco or lima city. The difference will be that you will miss activities of the last day due that the flight depart Puerto Maldonado early than the buses.
